During Fall Foliage
October 17-19, 2021 | Cost: $900 [$375 due at sign-up]
Come capture dozens of waterfalls and gorgeous fall foliage during the quiet hours at Ricketts Glen State Park. This weekday workshop will be the perfect addition to your weekend shooting fall foliage, with classroom time and plenty of one-on-one instruction in the field. Escape the crowds and take advantage of this unique learning experience.
Beginner - Advanced
Both beginners & experienced photographers will benefit from this workshop. I will work closely with you to address strengths and weaknesses. All can expect to be challenged.
While we will be taking it slow and easy, you should be in good physical condition and be capable of hiking several miles on uneven terrain. Reach out if you have any questions
Field & Classroom
We will spend a full-day in the field shooting with time for classroom sessions as well. Learn composition techniques, advanced camera settings, image editing & more!
8 people max
We prefer to keep workshops small, ensuring that each person will have ample time for one-on-one instruction. This photography workshop is limited to 8 people.
FIND YOUR FLOW...
One of the most incredible things about shooting waterfalls is the sheer amount of movement you can create, from your typical blurred water… all the way to advanced compositions with swirling leaves. And of course, when you reach a certain level, you can combine multiple elements of movement in a single shot. You will leave this workshop with plenty of new ideas and techniques for creating movement in your images.
Come home with stunning landscape images.

About Ricketts Glen State Park
Terrain & Fitness Level
We will be shooting along the Falls Trail in Ricketts Glen. The scenery is well worth the effort; however, the terrain is rocky, can be slippery, and in several areas the trail descends steeply with narrow sections. While we will be taking it slow and easy, participants should be in good physical condition and be capable of hiking several miles on uneven terrain. Please reach out if you have any questions about physical limitations.
IMPROVE YOUR SKILLS
In addition to learning in the field, we will have classroom time to focus on photography concepts and techniques.
Learning how to compose an image is one of the most important elements of photography and probably one of the hardest to master. Starting with this class and continuing throughout the workshop, Dan will teach you simple and actionable skills that will help you find amazing compositions in any environment.
Learn an easy an effective editing process from beginning to end using a combination of mostly Lightroom with some fairly easy but extremely powerful Photoshop to finish it off. This editing method is very artistic and effective for beginners and advanced users alike. It is always one of the highlights of the workshop.
Getting honest and constructive feedback about your images is extremely hard to find. At the end of every workshop, Dan will give you insightful critique on how to improve. While these sessions are honest, we guarantee you will go away inspired with new ideas and thoughts on making great images.
Please note that transportation and accommodations for the Ricketts Glen Photography Workshop are up to each individual participant.
LODGING: Lodging is up to each participant. The Benton cabin (where we will meet on Day 1) has 3 rooms that are available first come first serve. Let us know if you'd like one of these. Otherwise, please plan to make your accommodation arrangements independently of the workshop. There are a few hotel options in the area -- book early.
VEHICLE: If you won't have your personal vehicle, you will want to rent a vehicle at the airport you are flying into. We do not provide transportation.
GETTING THERE: The park is 30 miles north of Bloomsburg and an hour west of Scranton. For meals and using the meeting space, we will base out of the small town of Benton, a 15 minute drive from the park.
